The challenge for a small business owner is to understand the role of a consultant, and to learn how and when it is cost-effective to engage one.

What do we do as a small business consultants?

As small business consultants we are simply outside experts you contract to solve internal business problem(s). We are a great source of specialized information that brings knowledge, skills, experience and processes to the table improving a small business' profitability.

Unlike in-house employees, consultants have independent schedules, may have multiple clients, and are engaged on a contract/project basis. Depending on the engagement, one consultant may work independently or we may assemble a team, which typically includes one project manager together with two or more analysts.

We help with marketing, sales development, business improvements and /or expansion, and even the execution of ideas and recommendations developed through the engagement.

The engagement is typically handled in three stages, Pre-Consulting, Consulting Period and Post Consulting. The contract is usually 1-6 months and in some cases longer with the option to renew the contract as necessary.

Pre-Consulting: Prior to beginning the engagement,  we mutually set out the terms, parameters, and agree on the work to be performed along with the terms and conditions of the agreement, together with the fee structure.

Consulting Period: The consulting period typically includes discovery, research, present (8, if applicable), presentations and a final report of recommendations that completes the project which will supply you with a wide range of comprehensive information needed for you to propel your company to the next level.

Post Consulting: You may choose to extend the agreement with KAL or move towards the implementation of the recommendations on your own.

How much does it cost?

This is one of our favorite questions because the answer is quite simple:

Price is determined as to the extent of the engagement and by value.

Giving the statistics on fees alone is not a very valuable gauge, when you consider that consulting fees can range from $100 - $10,000 per hour and projects fees can range from $1,000 - $250,000, depending on the size of the company and the engagement.
